forest school
visegrád, apátkúti-valley
1994

The building adapts to the rough topographical conditions with a terraced structure, allowing each floor to foster direct contact with the surrounding environment. In the space enclosing the main stairway, the building reveals its inner system of corridors, high parapet walls and bold colour combinations recalling abstract paintings. Functional demands are reflected by movement, yet the steady inclination of the roof, the homogeneity of the stone and metal cladding creates harmony. The architectural message and details of the forest school are completely uninfluenced by fashion and therefore timeless. This is one of the greatest buildings in contemporary Hungarian architecture.
